Media 575: Web Production and Distribution
Assignment #1: Web Page Plan:
The Web Page plan was the initial document I created in order to have a baseline document for the pages and subsets of my websites. Through this assignment, I learned how to take my ideas and lay them out into a logical sequence. It was important to have a plan and follow it though. In addition, when you are able to layout the website in this sort of order, it is easy to see how complex or simple your website is. This visual representation helped me move sub sites and groups of pages around and make my page more logical. I will use this technique in the future when creating web pages or working with companies to revise/rework a web site. It is a simple tool that is very effective.
Assignment #2: Architecture Plan:
The Architecture Plan was a linking design practice exercise that allowed me to outline my website. I created this element in Microsoft Excel. The color scheme is detailed out the in key, but you can see how the colors/shapes each represent a tier of linkage in the website. In addition, the lines detail how the elements will be linked in the actual website. This assignment and document was very helpful when creating my actual site. I used it to refer back to and to make sure that I wasn’t missing any pages or links. I highly recommend using this technique when building a website.
Assignment #3: Prototype:
The Prototype was created in Microsoft Word and is the layout/design of my actual site. Not only is the color scheme, content and pictures included, but I had to show how my information was going to be set up in Dreamweaver. Dreamweaver uses a series of “boxes” to layout information. In the prototype, you can see where I have marked each “box” so I would know what information was contained in which element. This box method was used extensively when building my site and it was easy to refer back to my prototype to see what information I needed to add into each box. Building a prototype is a good way to visually see how your site will look before actually creating it. It is easy to make any changes before going live with the site that way. I learned a lot with the project and building the prototype was an excellent way for me to see how my site was going to look before it became a real website.
